Tritely Challenged Volume 2

Tritely Challenged Volume 2 is the second book in the Tritely Challenged Series. The anthology contains another 100 cliché-crammed flash fiction stories written by 100 authors who submitted their work to Chris's Colossal Cliché Count Writing Challenge.

"A literary showpiece - life changing. I laughed til I cried. A cliché to me is like a red rag to a porcupine. Buy this book and help a worthy cause while being royally entertained. Go to the website and contribute to volume 3! Highly recommended."

I'm proud to present Tritely Challenged Volume 2, the second book in the Tritely Challenged Series.

The book was officially released on Saturday 27th June 2020. It contains another 100 cliché-crammed flash fiction stories (numbers 101 to 200), written by 100 authors who submitted their work to Chris's Colossal Cliché Count Writing Challenge.

The cliché challenge was originally launched in conjunction with the inaugural Flash Fiction Festival back in 2017. Tritely Challenged Volume 1 was published in April 2018. The challenge has remained popular with my website users, hence this book exists.

About Tritely Challenged Volume 2

Tritely Challenged Volume 2 contains 100 cliché-overloaded stories (story numbers 101 to 200) submitted to Chris's Colossal Cliché Count Writing Challenge.

The challenge was launched at the inaugural Flash Fiction Festival, where I ran some writing workshops for attendees. The first anthology was launched in London, along with Adverbially Challenged Volume 4 and Nonsensically Challenged Volume 2.

Anthology Cover

The cover of Tritely Challenged Volume 2 was designed and created by David Fielden.

David FIelden

Dave Fielden, trying to get ready to play a bit of AC/DC while the drummer mucks about behind him (very unprofessional, couldn't be like it myself...)

Dave is happiest when he's cuddled up in bed with his guitar, stroking it like it's some sort of love child resulting from a nefarious affair with a maple tree.

He also likes designing book covers and websites, especially for his brother who he's incredibly lucky to be related to (and who had nothing to do with writing this biography - Dave wrote it all himself). You can learn more about Dave's website building at Bluetree.

The first cliché anthology had a black and white theme, because 'seeing everything in black and white' is a cliché. Because Dave is incredibly imaginative and hardworking, he spent hours pressing the invert button to make this second book cover. When he sent it to Chris, Dave told him it was in keeping with the theme to stop him from complaining. Luckily, laziness runs in the family, so Chris didn't ask for any changes to be made.

After reading his bio, Dave made the following comment (which is odd, because he definitely wrote the original biography – Chris had NOTHING to do with it):

"I like the bio. But I didn’t just press invert, I changed the number 1 to 2 and narrowed the spine by a couple of pixels. And then I had to export it as a PDF. It was true hard graft, I’ll have you know."

You will notice Dave didn't correct Chris himself regarding the love affair with the maple tree, which is worrying...

Have a guess what my daughter-in-law is getting for her birthday? Hope all are well in these crazy times. I'm finding it hard to type from a distance of two metres, I must say - he said, tritely.

Chris Fielden
100 copies of the book? What a spendid present. She's a very lucky human 🙂

Brilliant, Chris. Congratulations 🙂 I have put my order in to Amazon UK as Amazon Singapore don't have.

I was just wondering about your other competitions, Chris, now you are not publishing, does it mean that we can submit more than one story in a section? Reason I ask is I have a story in 81 words section and I found another one I'd written that was around that length but then remembered I already have a story there.

Have a great day and thanks so much again for including my story in this book. I hope the charity benefits greatly from your efforts.

Best wishes. Please stay safe.

Chris Fielden
Hi Steve. That’s great, thank you so much for your support 🙂

All the books that are currently filling up via the challenges will still be published. I’m just going to stop future publication via a lot of them as it’s too much work to manage. The plan is to publish the preposition, news, nonsense and 81 word anthologies, then make them website publishing only. Cliché is already website only, now Volume 2 has been published. The adverb and sensory challenges will continue to produce books.

I’m still only accepting one story per author per anthology. Once a challenge moves to website only, it will be one submission per author online. It’s mainly to help my workload. So, you can submit to the cliché challenge again now, if you would like to.

I hope that all makes sense. Stay safe and well mate.

Steve L
Dear Chris, many thanks for your message. Yes, thank you, all clear.

Please keep well and stay safe. All the best, Chris. Steve.

Chris Fielden
No problem, thanks Steve 🙂
