Christopher Fielden, 16a Beach Road West, Portishead, Bristol, BS20 7HR, UK.

Please DO NOT send any story/blog submissions to me by post. I do not accept submissions to the To Hull And Back short story competition, the writing challenges I run, my proofreading services or guest posts for my blog by post. If you want to submit anything to me, please contact me by email.

If you're a spammer, please save the trees – do not send me stuff I have not requested. It will end up in landfill. Well... in my recycling box. Landfill just sounds more dramatic.

To avoid any confusion, I live near Bristol in the UK. Below is a map that shows you where it is. It's an amazing city, full of art and culture, so perfect for creative types.

This website was established in 2011. In 2024, it was redesigned. Between 2011 and 2024, thousands of people left comments. I’d like to thank every person for their engagement – it’s greatly appreciated.

When the website was rebuilt, transferring comments comprising hundreds of thousands of words was not feasible. I may re-publish the old Contact Christopher Fielden page comments here at some point. In the meantime, new comments can be left below.

  1. Hello
I saw something about you at AXE Vale Arts in Axbridge and being nosy looked you up. What caught my eye was To Hull and Back. As I was born there, left in 1972 and now a resident in Axbridge for 42 years, the film was very interesting. The long journey, all those motorways, then Clive Sullivan Way and you know you’re back. But then on the return you came down Axbridge High Street and parked near Knightstone Close, I think, yet you claim to live in Portishead? Any road up, you look familiar. What I want to know is why? Hull was a great city made even greater by my great grandfather J H Hirst, city archetech for 30 years, and designed the beautiful Hull City Hall where I saw Free, Mott the Hoople and Wishbone Ash when for a brief period they let rock bands perform. He designed many other iconic buildings. So what’s the story?

    1. Hi Mary. Thanks for your message. Nice to “meet” a Hullian living in Axbridge! I grew up in Portishead and the business is still registered there. I moved to Axbridge in 2023 which is why the bike ride ended there. Well observed! The idea behind the comp was just a play on words. To Hell and Back – To Hull and Back. When I started the comp, I couldn’t offer a huge prize pot so decided to come up with something wacky and amusing that would suit a humorous writing comp. I wondered if it would be too weird, but lots of people entered and then I had to do the long ride. That was in 2014 and I’ve been riding up there ever since. It’s a beautiful aprt of the country. I’m doing the ride again this year in May and the Australian winner is going to meet me in Hull. So there you have it! Hope that answers all your Qs. Maybe see you at an Axe Vale Arts event at some point? Cheers, Chris
