The To Hull And Back Humorous Short Story Competition To Hull And Back Short Story Anthology 2019
"Bloody Hell, this is funny. Super Original. Uplifting. Gentle dry humour, quirky, dry, satisfying conclusion. Hilariously absurd. Gently, humorously, mind-bending. Wickedly funny x-rated excellence. In the gutter, guttural, dark humour. Batty twisted humour. One line was pure gold and made me choke on my Quavers. Hilariously ridiculous and ridiculously hilarious. A twisty tale, full of language that spirals along to an unexpected ending, the style a metaphor in itself. Soppily heart-warming. Sharply observational, the dry wit just slides into the narrative seamlessly. The most unusual way to bring the idea of the ticking clock into a story that I’ve ever encountered."

Anthology of year, twenty nineteen , fa-la-la, la-la-la, la-la-la. Published on the eve of Hulloween, fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la.

About The To Hull And Back Anthology
I’m proud to present the sixth ‘To Hull And Back’ humorous short story competition anthology. It contains a collection of 28 short stories from the winning, highly commended and shortlisted entrants of the 2019 contest. The book also contains a story written by each of the judges.
The stories in this book are fun and quirky, written by writers with vivid imaginations. This means all the tales are highly original and entertaining to read. I predict that each will become a fable of mirth and legend in the future.
The authors featured in this anthology are:
Adrian Hallchurch. Alan MacGlas, Brandon Robshaw, Christie Cluett, Christine Griffin, Christopher Fielden, Dan Purdue, Eddie Mitra, EJ Robinson, Ian Tucker, John Holland, Julie Bull, Karen Jones, Kathryn Joyce, Kiare Ladner, Louise Elliman, Mark Rutterford, Martin Strike, Mel Ciavucco, Mike Scott Thomson, Pat Winslow, Renée Boyer, Rob McInroy, Steph Minns, Steve Sheppard, Steven John, Susan Bennett and Tom Parker.
You can see all of their biographies on the 2019 competition results page.
The book’s cover was created by David Whitlam - you can see his biography below.
The anthology was first released on Hulloween (31st October) 2019. The winner’s copy of the book will make a journey on the Highway to Hull, strapped to a two-wheeled chariot of rampant noisiness. You can learn more about the meaning of the previous sentence and the ‘To Hull And Back’ competition (which offers the most awesome prize in the field of literature) on the main To Hull And Back short story competition page.
The To Hull And Back 2019 Video

Lots of lovely To Hull And Back anthologies, Lyrically Justified anthologies and short story collections by Stephen Oram

A big thank you to all the performers who journeyed from all over the place to deliver such wonderful readings. It takes balls to stand behind The Lonely Mic – huge thanks for some brilliant story telling and poetry performances.
And finally, a huge thank you to the audience for being so supportive to all the readers and generating such a welcoming atmosphere.

Many thanks, Chris. I’m looking forward to reading all the stories 🙂

Hearty congratulations to the winner, Alan Macglas, and all those running up and being commended highly. To achieve this magnificence requires absurd writing talent and, in all likelihood, equal measures of mental distortion and an incompatibility with normal folk. Roll on Hulloween - I can guarantee the anthology will be up to Chris Fielden's usual 'Boo'ker Prize standard.
Chris Fielden
Thank you, Pat. It's a great collection this year, so I hope you like it 🙂
And thank you, Martin. Yes indeed, good sir, yes indeed. Abnormalities in personality do help. As for the 'Boo'ker prize, I think we should start running it. Immediately.
