The To Hull And Back Humorous Short Story Competition To Hull And Back Short Story Anthology 2018

I’m proud to present the fifth To Hull And Back humorous short story competition anthology. It contains a collection of 27 short stories from the winning, highly commended and shortlisted entrants of the 2018 contest. The book also contains a story written by each of the judges.

"This is a huge portrait of current writing talent, ranging from outstanding to ’merely’ excellent. Some very endearing characters and scenes which linger long after you close the book at night and look forward to picking it up tomorrow. The delight is that you never know what’s coming next. Well done ‘Hull and Back’ for such an enthusiastic tribute to short storytelling."
Tony Payne, Amazon customer

Hulloween: the creepiest, darkest, most dastardly and hellishly Hulliest day of the year. The day when witches cackle in the sky, the bogeyman throws a party for creatures of the night, pumpkins are carved into ghoulish tools of light-bearing power and, most importantly, the To Hull And Back Anthology is released. It is available to buy all over the planet.

The To Hull And Back Short Story Anthology 2018 cover was designed by Charlotte Strike. It features the noble noggin of the winner, John Holland.

About The To Hull And Back Anthology

I’m proud to present the fifth ‘To Hull And Back’ humorous short story competition anthology. It contains a collection of 27 short stories from the winning, highly commended and shortlisted entrants of the 2018 contest. The book also contains a story written by each of the judges.

The stories in this book are fun and quirky, written by writers with vivid imaginations. This means all the tales are highly original and entertaining to read. I predict that each will become a fable of mirth and legend in the future.

The authors featured in this anthology are:

Aphra Pell, Cathy Cade, Christie Cluett, Christopher Fielden, Crystal Jeans, Edward Field, Gaynor Jones, Gina Parsons, Guy Russell, Jason Jackson, John Emms, John Holland, Jonathan Macho, Karen Jones, Katie Burton, Katy Wimhurst, Leema Ahmed, Mark Rutterford, Mel Ciavucco, Michele Sheldon, Mike Scott Thomson, Pat Winslow, Philip Charter, Rachel McHale, Richard de Silva, Sherry Morris and Steven John.

You can see all of their biographies on the 2018 competition results page.

The book’s cover was created by Charlotte Strike - you can see her biography below.

The anthology was first released on Hulloween (31st October) 2018. The winner’s copy of the book will make a journey on the Highway to Hull, strapped to a two-wheeled chariot of rampant noisiness. You can learn more about the meaning of the previous sentence and the ‘To Hull And Back’ competition (which offers the most awesome prize in the field of literature) on the main To Hull And Back short story competition page.

To Hull And Back Anthologies 2018 to 2014

A plethora of To Hull And Back anthologies

There were readings at the event from many of the writers featured in the 2018 anthology, plus some fabulous flash fiction and poetry read by regular Talking Tales performers. The order of events transpired as follows:

Part 1

Leema Ahmed read 'Humble Begettings'

Steven John read 'Fashion in Men’s Footwear – Late 20th Century'

M M Lewis read 'The Pantomime Villain's Tale'

Here a short break did commence, to purchase drinkypoos and perform ablutions.

Part 2

Sherry Morris read 'Miracles, Mercies and Mary… on Toast'

Helen Sheppard read 'Hair Molester' and 'Let's be Wacky and Melancholy 1978'

Oliver Kennett read 'The Wind In The Silence'

Pat Winslow read 'The Pig'
