Story 501
A Table in a Room Within a Room

What do you think when you see a table? Do you press your fingertips against the grains of wood and sink back into the roots that bore through solid ground? Roots that tore through soils and burst through the air into soft green spirals.
Do you ponder what gentle feathers caressed the aged oak? Think about the weight that stretched lazily along the drooping branches. Is the space that it occupies a sight that strikes awe into you?
Do you reflect on the mausoleum that warms your palm or do you think that it would look better painted blue?

Story 502
A Little Cat Sleeps Here…

I passed an old house in the village, a house that had stood empty for many years.
A cat had died inside, curled within an iron basket of delicate, openwork patterns.
Its bones were small and fine. Once, their owner must have moved swiftly and keenly across rooftops, through narrow lanes, and among the woods. Now, it lay here in peace, like a kite carefully folded away.
Perhaps this was for the best.
The cold and heat of the seasons, the hurts and hardships of this world – all of them had nothing to do with it anymore.
At night, moonlight slipped through the window and scattered itself over those white bones. The little wanderer of the dark no longer stirred.
Carrying its free heart with it, it had gone to sleep here forever.

Story 503
Light

There was naught. Then, there was a dazzling radiance. It blazed beautifully, but after eons and eons, the light dissipated. Darkness rushed back in.
A sea of shining stars shifted and twisted.
A brilliant golden star, surrounded by a spinning sea of sizzling dust. The star, now crimson, consuming everything.
A planet shifting from scarlet to ivory to azure.
A land, once pristine, torn apart with fire and metal.
A town at night aglow with streetlights and billboards.
A darkened silhouette of a person hunched over, outlined in a window.
A drop catching the light for just a moment.

Story 504
Déjà Vu

8:45 PM.
I remember hearing my sibling had died. Later, I had a son and daughter. One night, my daughter knocked.
“Daddy? Are you up?”
She became ill and died at 8:45 pm. I locked my son in a room, hiding the truth. Then everything decayed into darkness.
Knock… knock… knock.
I woke again. Son and daughter were playing. My phone said 2001.
Then I remembered: the first tragedy wasn’t mine. It was my father’s. I was the child locked away. The girl who died was my sister.
My father had lied to me.
Now the cycle repeats.

We Women Grow

We women grow in a modern society that advocates equality and imperfection.
But never fully shields us from those voices stuck in the past.
They stay silent enough to become a normalised, outdated ideology, “always there”.
But in our heads, it’s a constant, relentless attack on everything that makes us women feel united.
They call our visceral hearts too full of the very thing that makes us human: emotion.
But our compassion connects us to all women, those before us who stayed resilient so we can rise.
We women grow in a modern society that is stuck in the past.
