Tasting wine - the basics

For thirty years Christopher has lectured for the Wine & Spirit Education Trust at all levels and on a variety of subjects, particularly Burgundy and Alsace.

He is also in demand to speak to all sorts of groups, because of his wide range of experiences in the world of wine and his relaxed and amusing way in getting the subject across. Over the years he has spoken in China, Japan, The United States, at a number of universities, cruise liners, Rugby School, and wine societies including The Solicitors’, Manchester, Winchester, Worcester and Cardiff.

His preferred topics include: Burgundy, Pinot Noir, Alsace, Wine Fraud and The Wines of Latin America.

1. Hold the glass to the light to asses the wine’s colour

5. Spitting accurately is not easy, practice with a glass of water

3. Swirl the wine in the glass to liberate the flavour
